Pickup Driver Airlifted to Hospital After Crash with 18-Wheeler in Crosby

Pickup driver airlifted to hospital after crash with 18-wheeler in crosby.

A man driving a pickup truck was seriously injured in a crash with an 18-wheeler. The crash occurred in the 18500 block of Crosby Lynchburg Road. Emergency crews rushed to the scene where firefighters had to extricate the pickup driver from the vehicle. The pickup truck was so badly damaged it was unrecognizable, and there was also damage to the big rig.

The pickup driver was flown by helicopter to the hospital where his condition is unknown. The driver of the big rig was not injured. The cause of the accident is under investigation but initial reports indicate that the 18-wheeler hit the pickup truck.

Serious Injuries Caused by Truck Accidents

When a large 18-wheeler crashes into a smaller vehicle, there are likely to be injuries or fatalities. The speed of the vehicles in this case was not disclosed, however, speed often plays a role in serious accidents such as this one. Large commercial trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds when fully loaded, making them extremely difficult to stop quickly. When a truck is traveling at a high rate of speed, it can be very hard to stop to avoid an accident.

In this case, we do not know the specific injuries that the pickup driver sustained, but they were likely serious. The Life Flight helicopter is generally only used in life-threatening situations. Injuries that are often sustained in accidents with trucks include back and neck injuries, broken bones, head trauma, and internal injuries as well as minor contusions and lacerations.

When someone has to be extricated from a vehicle after a crash, it often means that he or she could be pinned inside. Crush injuries can occur in these cases, especially to the lower extremities. In some cases, the injuries are so severe that amputation is necessary. If severe head trauma occurs, the victim could be disabled for the rest of his or her life.

What to do After a Serious Truck Accident

Your medical condition is your primary concern immediately following a truck accident. It is important to gather all of the medical documents including diagnosis and treatment as well as medical bills. Contact the best truck accident attorney to assist you in resolving your case. You may be entitled to compensation from the negligent party. Do not wait to contact an attorney because the law limits your time to file a claim.

Do not discuss the matter with the other driver’s insurance company and do not accept a settlement check. It is important to wait until your injuries are completely healed to ensure that you get enough money to cover all of your current and future medical costs. All too often, insurance companies are quick to provide a check because they want to resolve the case with as little money as possible. If you cash the check, you will not be able to seek further damages.
